The quadratic form E₈ and exotic homology manifolds

An explicit quadratic form over the integral group ring of the free abelian group on 2n generators is obtained for use in the construction of a 2n-dimensional compact exotic ENR homology manifold not homotopy equivalent to any closed topological manifold.
