Tenure-track Position in Applied and Computational Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at The Florida State University is now accepting applications for one tenure-track assistant professorship position in applied and computational mathematics with emphasis on computational mathematics that starts in August 2016.

Florida State University (www.fsu.edu) is a Research I institution within the twelve member State University System of Florida; there are over 40,000 students at the main campus in Tallahassee. Tallahassee (see http://talgov.com), the state capital, is located in North Florida, about 25 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, with easy access to world-famous beaches and pristine natural habitats.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related area, a strong research record and potential to obtain external funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Other desirable qualifications include postdoctoral experience and the ability to develop collaborations both within and outside the university.

Florida State University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to diversity in hiring, and a Public Records Agency. Candidates from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Qualified candidates must apply through two websites, which require somewhat different information:

  1. The AMS website
  2. The FSU Employment and Recruitment Services website (Position no. 58510 - job opening ID 39419).

Each applicant must submit a cover letter, a standard AMS cover sheet, a current vitae, a description of current and planned research, and a statement of teaching philosophy. Additionally, candidates should arrange to have four letters of recommendation (at least one of the letters must address the applicant's teaching capability) uploaded directly by their reference writers to mathjobs.org.

Candidates who apply through one website only are not eligible for on-campus interviews.

Applications received by November 20, 2015 will receive full consideration. Applicants will be notified when the position is filled. There is no need to contact the department for application status. Information about the department is available at www.math.fsu.edu.
