We will be covering chapters 11-14 in the textbook. The textbook is Stewart Calculus 3rd Edition. This section will also be doing Maple every Friday in one of the computerized classrooms.
This course is an introduction to various topics in multi-variable calculus and some of its applications. Mastery of this material is needed for the classes it serves as a prerequite.
Requirements
Eligibility You must have had the course prerequisite MAC 2312
Calculus 2 and earned a grade of C- or better. You must not have had
a C- or better in MAC 2313 Calculus 3 or any course with Cal 3 as a
prerequiste (stated or implied). If you have more than 8 hours of
prior credit in college calculus you must take Cal 3 for reduced credit.
It is the students's responsibility to check and prove eligibility.
(Don't you just hate this lawyer stuff.)
Attendance is required. Attendance is determined by the presence of your homework. You are deemed here if your homework is here even if you are not physically present. Conversely, if you are physically present but without your homework, you will be deemed absent. More than 5 absences yeilds an automatic fail. This sounds a bit strange at first, but a student who has not done his/her homework is not ready for the class. Math is not a spectactor sport.
The standard 90%, 80%, 70%, 60% grading scale. The final counts as two tests. The projects count as one test. There will be 3 in class "tests" as well as the final. Homework is required. missing more than 5 homework assignments is an automatic fail.
The final is on Friday 11 Dec at the way too early hour of 7:30am. It is hard to imagine a worst final time.
The tentative test dates are 15/17 Sep 20/22 Oct and 24 Nov. NO MAKEUP TESTS will normally be given. A test absence may be excused if the student presents sufficient verifiable evidence of acceptable extenuating circumstances. If a test absence is excused, then the final exam will be used for the missing test grade. Acceptable medical excuses must state explicitly that the student should be excused from class. Neither family social events nor travel plans are acceptable excuses.
Students must bring their FSU ID cards to all tests.
The best way to ask questions of the good doctor is via email. But of course, the phone or appearing at my office 002B LOV will also work. I am often around in the afternoons and usually available for questions if my door is open.
MW 2:30-3:30, TR 2:00-3:00 or by appointment.
