Sample position description:

To perform mathematical and statistical analyses and actuarial modeling in support of our clients needs. Experience gained through data analysis, modeling, and communication with clients will help develop problem-solving skills necessary to become a Consultant. Development of related software, tools, data analyses, communication skills, and an understanding of the big picture on projects are critical to success as an Actuary Consultant, and ultimately a requirement for promotional consideration. The purpose of this position is to develop skills necessary to become a Consultant. The specific responsibilities will vary based on the needs of clients. Common duties include:

• Develop medical expense cost projections for HMOs, insurance companies, and physician/hospital provider groups.
• Analyze and develop physician and hospital reimbursement contracts and risk-sharing arrangements.
• Assist in development of state rate filings for HMOs and insurance companies in the medical business.
• Analyze group and individual medical experience and develop summary reports.
• Develop unpaid claim reserve estimates for HMOs and insurance companies.
• Develop spreadsheet-based pricing models for use by clients.
• Prepare regulatory compliance documentation for small group health and Medicare business.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients
• Analytical skills for problem identifying and solving.
• Ability to quickly learn and use computer software tools effectively.
• Other miscellaneous projects as requested by clients.
