SCHEDULE
Class will meet on Monday and Wednesday, 2:30PM–3:20PM, and Tuesday and Thursday, 2:00PM–3:15PM, in HCB 0213.
ELIGIBILITY
You must have the course prerequisites listed below and must never have completed with a grade of C- or better a course for which MAC 2313 is a (stated or implied) prerequisite. Students with more than eight hours of prior credit in college calculus are required to reduce the credit for MAC 2313 accordingly. It is the student’s responsibility to check and prove eligibility.
PREREQUISITES
You must have passed MAC 2312 (Calculus II) with a grade of C- or better or have satisfactorily completed at least four hours of equivalent calculus courses.
TEXT
Calculus (Early Transcendentals) (Fifth Edition), by James Stewart.
COURSE CONTENT
Chapters 12–16 of the text.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to more advanced topics in the calculus and some of their applications. The material in this course should be mastered before the student proceeds to courses for which it is a prerequisite.
CALCULATORS
Students are allowed (and even encouraged) to use a programmable (graphing) calculator during class meetings and in general as an aid during study time. However, no specific class material or course section will explicitly depend on, or require, a calculator of any sort. Above all, calculators (of any sort) will not be allowed during quiz, test, or final exams.
GRADING
Homework will not be collected. There will be short weekly quizzes, four unit tests, and a cumulative final exam. The final grade will be calculated according to the following weights: the overall quiz score 10% (see below for the calculation), the first two unit tests 15%, the second two unit tests 20% and the final exam 20%.

Letter grades will be determined from numerical grades as follows. A: 90-100%; B: 80-89%; C: 70-79%; D: 60-69%; F: 0-59%. Plus or minus grades may be assigned in a manner consistent with standard University practice. A grade of I will not be given to avoid a grade of F or to give additional study time. Failure to process a course drop will result in a course grade of F.

QUIZZES
There will be 10 graded weekly quizzes. The quiz overall score will be computed as Total quiz points0.7, 100% maximum. Thus you can miss 3 quizzes and still get the maximum quiz average score.

Quizzes will be (usually) given on Thursday, during the last 10 or 15 minutes of class time, except for those weeks when a test is scheduled.

HOMEWORK
Homework problems will be assigned but not collected or graded. A list of homework problems will be assigned weekly as a minimal problem set for practice. Students are encouraged to solve those problems as soon as they are assigned and to ask questions about them in class.
TESTS
Tentative dates for the tests are as follows:
FINAL EXAM
Thursday, April 24th, 12:30PM–2:30PM, same location as class meetings.
EXAM POLICY
No makeup tests will normally be given. A test may be excused if the student presents sufficient verifiable evidence of acceptable extenuating circumstances. If a test absence is excused, then the final exam will be used for the missing test grade. An unexcused absence will result in a grade of zero. Absences from exams due to family social events will not be excused. Acceptable medical excuses must state explicitly that the student should be excused from class. Students must take the final examination at the scheduled time. Students must bring FSU ID cards to all tests.
COURTESY
Punctuality is preferred, but in the event of a late entrance, please disturb the class as little as possible. If you have to leave early, I would appreciate being alerted in advance. Please turn cell phones off during class. If an exceptional situation requires you to keep your cell phones turned on, please inform me in advance and set it to vibrate.
MATH HELP CENTER
The Math Help Center is located in 110 MCH (Milton Carothers Hall) next door to the Love Building. The hours of operation will be announced when they are available.
HONOR CODE
The Academic Honor System of The Florida State University is based on the premise that each student has the responsibility 1) to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity in the student’s own work, 2) to refuse to tolerate violations of academic integrity in the University community, and 3) to foster a high sense of integrity and social responsibility on the part of the University community. Please note that violations of this Academic Honor System will not be tolerated in this class. Specifically, incidents of plagiarism of any type or referring to any unauthorized material during examinations will be rigorously pursued by this instructor. Before submitting any work for this class, please read the “Academic Honor System” in its entirety (as found in the FSU General Bulletin and in the FSU Student Handbook) and ask the instructor to clarify any of its expectations that you do no understand.
AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT
Students with disabilities needing academic accommodations should: 1) register with and provide documentation to the Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC); 2) bring a letter to the instructor from SDRC indicating you need academic accommodations. This should be done within the first week of class.
