Introduction to MAC 1105

NOTE : You are responsible for all the information contained in the syllabus. The following are highlights from it as well as other pertinent information about this course.

I.       Eligibility – We will check the records of each student and drop those who are ineligible within the first week of classes. I recommend that you read the paragraphs in the syllabus that pertain to eligibility for this course and then consider the following:

A.   If you determine for certain that you are ineligible, drop and pick up another course while you can during DROP/ADD.

B.   If you are uncertain about your eligibility, see me (or see your advisor).

C.   If you are uncertain about the math requirement for your major, see your advisor.

D.  If you are undecided about your major and you have a weak mathematics background, you should consider postponing taking a math course until you decide. (If you are undecided on a major but know it will not be a major requiring any math other than liberal studies math, I recommend you take either MGF 1106 or MGF 1107.)

 II.  About E-mail:

I will not reply to any question that is answered in the syllabus or to any question that arises due to an absence from class, unless that absence is for a valid, verifiable reason. In other words, e-mail is not to be used to avoid attending class.  I will answer all questions concerning grades in person.

III.  Students with disabilities are directed to read closely the paragraph entitled AMERICAN DISABILITIES ACT  on p.1 of the syllabus.  I will need to have your official form as soon as possible.

IV.  FSU ID’s are required for all tests and quizzes. Carry them with you to each class.

      V. Click here for suggested homework from your text—if you need more practice than eGrade.

VI.  I do not use the PRS “clicker.”

VII.        Calculators (quoting from the last page of your syllabus): "The only authorized calculator allowed during in-class Tests and Quizzes is the calculator available on the computers in the HTL classrooms. No other calculators are allowed. The use of an unauthorized calculator is a violation of the Academic Dishonesty policies, as stated above, and will be dealt with accordingly."

VIII.     Ms. Blackwelder is the course coordinator for MAC 1105.  Here is her home page: www.math.fsu.edu/~blackw/MAC1105

IX.            Go to Blackboard/Course Library/Daily Quizzes/D1 (or to www.math.fsu.edu/~everage/MAC1105/SyllabusQuiz.pdf), download a copy of the quiz and answer the questions concerning your syllabus and my web sites. This quiz is the first daily quiz, D1.  The first week of classes, I will print a copy of class enrollment each morning before lecture.  D1 is due the second class meeting after your name appears on the class roster.

X.               Go to my Blackboard site and familiarize yourself with the location of the information found there.  Many of the materials offered to you in the course may be found both on my Blackboard site and on my homepage.

XI.           The answer to the question “Do I have math homework tonight” is always “yes.”  If you work the on-line homework a second time, you will be presented with different problems on the same topics.
