Set 11 has been posted. It discusses Quasi-Newton (Secant) methods for systems. You are not responsible for it on the exams.
The solutions to Homework 8 have been posted early to assist in your completion of Program 4.

Since no objections have been made the Exam 2 plan has been updated as now indicated on the Exam Information page.
A request was made to change the time of Exam 2 due to overlap with an exam in another class for which there is overlap in student population. The request is that Exam 2 be distributed on the website on the morning of Friday December 2 and due before class on Monday December 5. Any objections must be made today November 28. If none are made the change will be posted this afternoon.
Slide 42 in Set 9 modified to be clearer.
A typo in the Comments on Program 3 has been fixed and the file reposted. It is the existence of a vector v such that the transpose of L times that vector is 0 that is required. Specifically, we know that at least L^Te_1=0. The superscript T on L was missing at three points in the comments.

The due date of Program 3 has been moved to Monday November 21.
Typos were fixed in the Solutions to Homework 6. On page 3, the reordered matrix tilde(A)_1 should have -2 as its (4,4) element. Note the determinant computation uses the correct value. On page 4, the reordered matrix tilde(A) should have elements (2,4) and (2,5) of -1 and 3 respectively. Note this does not affect the subsequent determinants or eigenvalue discussion. The corrected solutions have been posted.
