- If your notes are in electronic form, you may use a notebook computer
to access them, i.e., you need not bring a complete paper copy. However,
you may only use the computer to access this semester's course notes, homework solutions etc.
and as a "calculator". Any attempt use to access any other material will result in a
forfeited exam, i.e., a score of $0$.
- Clarification of the coverage of the Final. Set 11 on quasi-newton
methods for solving systems of nonlinear equations is not covered.
As noted in the last post, Set 12 is covered up to and including the
material on the solution of symmetric positive definite systems using optimization
principles (SD and CG).
-
12/9/11
- The Final Exam is comprehensive of all material in the class up to
but NOT INCLUDING the quasi-Netwon methods for unconstrained optimization.
The last topic is the application of unconstrained optimization techniques to
the solution of symmetric positive definite systems.
