Prerequisites
MS Degree Prerequisites
If the highest degree you seek is the MS, then you should indicate this on the departmental application form.
To be admitted for the MS degree, you must have:
- taken math courses on the following subjects

Calculus 1, 2, and 3 (multivariate calculus) 
Differential equations and linear algebra 
Probability and Statistics 
(in addition, Real Analysis or Advanced Calculus is recommended)



- a GRE score of at least 700 Q, and 1100 Total
- a TOEFL score of at least 550 on the paper-based test,

on the computer-based test, or 80 on the internet-based (for all
international applicants whose native language is not English and who
have not studied in an English-speaking country for at least one
academic year), and
- strong reference letters.
There are two other important requirements:
- You need to have taken a course on Corporate Finance before the start of
your first Fall.
- You need a working knowledge of programming in C++ before the start of your first Spring term. If you are not already proficient in C++, you will need to take a
C++ course in the first semester.
PhD Degree Prerequisites
If your ultimate goal is to obtain the PhD, then you should choose PhD for "Highest Degree Seeking" on the departmental application form.
To be admitted for the PhD degree, you need to satisfy the requirements above, plus:
- taken several math courses at the
upper division
level, in addition to those listed for the MS degree. In particular, a
course on Advanced Calculus (Real Analysis), or a two-semester sequence,
Advanced Calculus I and II, is strongly recommended.
- a GRE Q score considerably higher than the minimum for
the
MS degree
- strong reference letters that give evidence for your aptitude for research
