Statistical Analysis of Gene Expression Data from DNA Micro-Array Experiments

Keywords: DNA microarrays, gene expression and regulation, cancer, moltivariate analysis, biplots, principal component analysis, clvstering algorithms, classification trees

My proposed postdoctoral research is the development of novel statistical methods for the design and analysis of gene expression experiments using DNA microarrays. The statistical questions I wish to explore fall within the broad field of multivariate analysis and deal with, finding efficient and intuitive ways of representing the rich and complex data provided by microarrays, identifying sets of co-regulated genes for different biological processes, and using gene expression patterns as diagnostic tools in cancer research. Initially, existing statistical methods such as principal components, block clustering and classification trees will be investigated. Novel methods in multivariate analysis will also be developed in order to fully exploit the potential of microarrays and to elucidate features of pathways of co-regulated genes.
