The Department of Mathematics requires GRE V and Q taken within the last five years. Please note that although the GRE score is one element of your application and the program views the entire file holistically in making a determination of admission, high scores on the the GRE Quantitative Reasoning (Q) score are shown by all successful students.
FSU Math's Revised-GRE admissible Q minimum score is 155 (based on current published ETS score concordances). A high Verbal Reasoning (V) score is also desirable. The department will expect Revised-GRE scores V >= 140; for a student with a V score at the bottom of that range, the department will look for a very strong Q score.
GRE history for FSU Mathematics: In the past seven years, students admitted and successful in graduate FSU degree programs have had GRE Q score range 700-800 with modal score 800 and median score 780. The previous minimum expected Verbal Reasoning (V) score was 400 (31st percentile) with admission consideration at lower V levels only when Q was 790 or 800 and the overall file was exceptional. On the old-form GRE, FSU math expected for admissibility a minimum of Q = 700 and a minimum Q+V = 1100. Students admitted near the bottom of the score ranges had lower completion rates than those at the top of the score ranges.
The minimum TOEFL score is 80 on the IB-TOEFL, 550 for paper based; minimum IELTS score is a 6.5.
