The Fermat Hypersurfaces and their Periods
I will discuss the topology of the Fermat hypersurfaces, including a description of an explicit basis for their middle dimensional integral homology group. Then I will discuss the period matrix with respect to this basis and obtain a higher dimensional analogue of a formula of D. Rohrlich for the periods on the Fermat curve (Riemann surface).

Monodrony Groups, Riemann Surfaces and Transcendental Functions
I will start with the definition of the monodromy group of a transcendental function and show how simple algebraic properties of the group are reflected in properties of the function. Next, I will show how the affirmative solution of the "inverse problem" allows us to apply modern group theory to obtain interesting new transcendental functions. Finally, I will explain the relation to the Differential Galois Theory.

The talk should be accessible to graduate students, especially those who have studied the beginnings of complex variables ans algebra.
