held during Spring Break 2003 at FSU. One of the
talks
mentioned the level set method.
The image below is a big (430KB) animated gif showing the spread
of three elliptical fires. The third fire is a `spot' and starts later.
(This model justs ``glues'' the three separate fires together, a
more realistic model might burn the non-convex cusps faster.)
The image below is a Voronoi Diagram (for a neat Java Applet click
here).
Voronoi diagrams can be thought of as starting circular fires at a number
of points in the plane and then grouping the points according to which
fire got there first. Here is the geometry in action link for
