homework
Homework will be assigned daily. Students will present many exercises in class.
objectives
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to some of the modern concepts in algebra that arise from our knowledge of number systems. We shall take a rather concrete approach to our study, motivating abstract concepts with concrete, familiar examples.
attendance
Most of the material that I expect you to master will be presented in class. There will be significant student participation in class as well. I therefore expect students to attend regularly.
courtesy
Generally, please arrive to class on time and do not to leave class until I have dismissed it. If you must leave class early, please let me know before class begins.
grading
Your grade in the course will be based on class participation (including performance on homework assignments) and exams.
test dates
W 19 May, F 28 May, W 9 June, F 18 June
schedule
A day by day pacing schedule, updated regularly, is listed here.
