Exam Information


12/2/20

1. The rules for the final exam are the same as those for Exams 1 and 2.

11/30/20

1. The final exam is 12:30 -- 14:30 Wednesday December 9 for those that take the exam with respect to the Eastern time zone.
For those not able to take the exam with respect to the Eastern time zone, I propose that the final be 8:00 -- 10:00 earlier in the morning of Wednesday December 9. Let me know ASAP if this is not possible due to conficts.
2. The final exam is comprehensive Set 1 through Set 29 and includes Set 32. Sets 30 and 31 on Runge Kutta methods are not included.

11/10/20

1. For those that are able to take the exam based on the Eastern time zone, Exam 2 with remote supervision will be the evening of Monday 23 November from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.
2. The alternate session will be Tuesday 24 November from 10:00AM to 12:00PM
3. The rules are the same as those for Exam 1.
4. Exam 2 will cover all material related to Set 16 through Set 26 (with the exception of Set 25 on Gauss Quadrature which we have not covered in lectures yet and any other material explicitly exempted on the notes page.)

10/29/20

1. For those that are able to take the exam based on the Eastern time zone, it is proposed to hold Exam 2 with remote supervision either on the evening of Friday 20 November or the evening of Monday 23 November from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.
2. Any comments on a preference should be expressed immediately by email.
3. The alternate session will be announced immediately upon finalizing the choice above.

10/21/20

1. Zoom meetings have been added to the class meeting schedule for the two Exam 1 sessions.
2. The zoom meeting for special session on Thursday will open at approximately 9:30AM and the exam will begin at 10:00AM.
3. The zoom meeting for the session on Friday will open at approximately 6:00PM and the exam will begin at 6:30PM.
3. Pdf files of the exam will be distributed immediately before the exam begins. Make sure therefore to join the meeting at least 15 minutes before the exam's starting time.

10/16/20

1. Exam 1 will cover all materail through the discussion of piecewise polynomial bases for piecewise polynomial interpolants in Set 15.
2. Both the special exam session on Thursday morning and the regular exam session Friday evening will be monitored on zoom and you will be required keep you camera on for the duration of the exam.
3. The exam will be distributed via email/canvas shortly before the exam session. Solutions will be submitted using canvas (or email if problems occur with canvas) immediately after the exam session.
4. Make sure to send me email this week confirming the session in which you will take the exam. The special session should only be used by students for whom the regular session would be a significant hardship due to time zone.
5. Exam 1 is a closed book exam. You may not use the textbook, class notes, homework solutions or any other reference material other than as specified below. A simple graphing calculator is permitted. Electronic devices with network connectivity or sufficient storage capacity to contain notes or other reference material are not permitted. You may prepare and use 2, 8 inch by 11 inch, sheets of paper with handwritten notes only on both sides of each of each sheet. Any attempt to use any other reference material other than the two pieces of paper will result in a failing grade on the exam.

1. For those that are able to take the exam based on the Eastern time zone, it is proposed to hold Exam 1 with remote supervision on Friday 23 October from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.
2. For those in time zones that make the above time impossible it is proposed that to hold Exam 1 with remote supervision on Thursday 22 October from 10:00AM to 12:00PM (noon).
