Exam Information


11/30/21

1. The Final Exam is Tuesday 7 December 2021, 10:00 -- 12:00.

2. The rules are the same as Exams 1 and 2.

3. The exam is comprehensive of all material through Set 18. In Set 17 you are responsible for the results on convergence rate and the formal characterization of Q-convergence rates (slide 19). You are not responsible for the details of the model-based proofs on the exam. Similarly in Set 18, you are not responsible for the details of the model-based proof of convergence but you are responsible for all of the results in that set of notes. Set 19 is not on the final and will be discussed at the beginning of next semester.

11/15/21

1. Exam 2 will be Monday 22 November from 6:30PM to 8:30PM in the usual classroom unless there is an unexpected conflict in which case we will try 201 or a first floor room.

2. The same rules as for Exam 1 hold.

3. Exam 2 covers material in Set 9 through Set 14 and all of the associated study questions and graded homeworks, i.e., numerics of factorizations through nonstationary iterative methods for linear systems.

1. It is proposed to hold Exam 2 on either Monday 22 November or Tuesday 23 November from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.

2. The Final Exam is Tuesday 7 December 2021, 10:00 -- 12:00.

1. Exam 1 will be Thursday 21 October from 6:30PM to 8:30PM. It will be an in-person exam in the regular class room unless otherwise announced.

10/10/21

1. It is proposed to hold Exam 1 on Friday 22 October from 6:30PM to 8:30PM.

2. Exam 1 will cover the material through Least Squares and the associa ted homeworks, study questions and notes..

3. Exam 1 is a closed book exam. You may not use class notes, homework solutions or any other reference material. A simple graphing calculator is permitted. Electronic devices with network connectivity or sufficient storage capacity to contain notes or other reference material are not permitted.

4. You may prepare and use 2, 8 inch by 11 inch, sheets of paper with handwritten notes only on both sides of each sheet. Any attempt to use any other reference material other than the two pieces of paper will result in a failing grade on the exam.
