Title: Presentations of Planar Algebras

Speaker: Stephen Bigelow

Abstract: When Vaughan Jones was first working out the theory of planar algebras, he called them "doodles". They do seem to walk a line between serious algebra and idle doodling. I will explain what they are, and how to define some examples in terms of generators and relations. The goal is to make these examples accessible to doodlers who have no background in functional analysis.
