TA Proctoring Instructions - Fall 2024
Things to know before Finals Week:
· All final exams are online. Either in MyMathLab (MAC 2233) or ALEKS (MAC 1105, 1114, 1140). Do not distribute emergency paper final exams unless directed by the instructor on duty, to do so.
· Be 15 minutes early to your proctoring duty. If you arrive after the 15-minute mark, you will be considered late and an incident report will be filed. Double check your proctoring obligations on this google sheet (not on the sign up website): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zqfjP7Ez00QaU0ZmvCvsNRZ4U4U3TtVUAcZ980ZF4RQ/edit?usp=sharing
Before letting students in:
· Get rosters and write the student's assigned computer number beside each student name on the roster.
· Make sure each computer has a tethered, working calculator. And make sure there is no writing on the desktops or under the keyboards.
· Project seating charts https://www.math.fsu.edu/~hollings/FERS-seating-charts-Fall2024/ and other information to screen (clock or timer, and (hidden) password)
· Either the TA or Instructor on Duty need to make the following announcements while students are in the hallway:
Begin to let students in (8-10 minutes before the final exam start time):
· When you check the student IDs at the door, tell the student their assigned seat number.
· If a student is late, follow these guidelines:
o Students who arrive within the first 30 minutes must take the exam in the time that remains.
o Students who arrive between 30-90 minutes late must either complete the exam in the time that remains or contact his/her lecturer to reschedule with a grade penalty. Please call your faculty contact if you have any questions. If a student chooses to take the exam in the time that remains, then the student needs to sign an agreement form (see your folder).
o Students who arrive more than 90 minutes late are not allowed to start the exam.
Right before giving the password:
Administer password at start time:
· Password issues: If there is a singular problem with a password specific to the online platform (either MyMathLab or ALEKS), see the specific Instructor(s) who oversee that course, names which are listed on the top of the emergency contact list.
While proctoring:
After all students have left the lab, please do the following:
· Make sure each computer has a tethered, working calculator.
· Make sure there is no writing on the desktops or under the keyboards.
· If there is a shortage of scrap paper in the lab, please contact the instructor on duty and report it immediately.
· Put the folder with instructions, rosters, emergency contact information, and passwords on top of the instructor desk (NOT in the box on the instructor’s desk with the folders from the rest of the semester).
Emergency Issues: If there is a general emergency/concern during your proctoring time, please contact the Instructor on Duty immediately. The Emergency Contact List will be provided in the folder in your lab classroom. Emergency Issues include suspicions of cheating; students that become ill, or mentally unwell; widespread computer or internet issues; noise issues; etc.
Pink Calculators: The only permitted calculator is the pink handheld calculator tethered to the student computer. No exceptions. No phone calculators, no smart watch calculators, etc. If a tethered calculator is malfunctioning, try to reset it by pressing the 2nd key and then 0. If it cannot be fixed by reset, distribute one of the "extra" calculators from the plastic bin under the instructor desk. There should be 2 extra calculators in the bin. Notify Dr. Hollingsworth (lhollingsworth@fsu.edu) with the room number and the machine number if a tethered calculator is loose, missing or if it cannot be fixed by resetting.
Computer Login Issues:
· If a student is not able to login to the computer using their Canvas username (FSU ID) and password, please log in for them, using your credentials.
DUO or Canvas Login Issues:
· If a student is unable to access FSU services (DUO or FSU email account) then they should log in directly to Pearson or ALEKS using their personal credentials (which they should have). If they do not know their credentials and cannot log in, they will need to contact their instructor immediately and there will be a penalty on their final exam score for scheduling a makeup.
