The human brain has many folds and fissures that vary significantly in size, shape and extent between individuals. As a result, there is great interest in "unfolding" and visualizing the cortical surface to create a flat map of the brain. These maps can then be used to compare anatomical and functional differences between subjects. I will present my approach to creating flat maps of the brain surface, show some of the maps that I have created and demonstrate how visualizing the brain can lead to new research results.
