THE HURDAL RESEARCH LAB

My research lab consists of graduate and undergraduate students. While most of my reseach is related to brain mapping, I am interested and willing to work or consult on problems in any area of mathematics applied to medicine and biology, or other areas. My research involves computer programming, visualization, mathematics, statistics, imaging, neuroscience, ... and many other areas. Graduate and undergraduate students who have worked in my lab have continued on to academia, post-docs, graduate school, and industry.

Undergraduate Student Research
I often seek undergraduate students to volunteer in my group. If you are an undergraduate interested in working with me, you do not necessarily require skills in all the areas mentioned above, but you must have a good GPA and be willing to work hard. Students with strong mathematical backgrounds (i.e. Calculus 2 and above) and with some programming experience (i.e. C++, or experience with Matlab or SciLab) will be given preference. Generally I require a 2 semester commitment. If you are an undergraduate student interested in working with me, please email me to arrange an appointment or come visit me during my office hours. Options include doing a Directed Independent Study (DIS) or Honors Thesis with me.

Graduate Research
If you are a graduate student who wishes to do research with me, and you have not yet been admitted into FSU, you must first apply and be admited into the FSU Biomathematics Graduate Program. Please see FSU Graduate Mathematics for admission information. If you are a current student in the FSU Biomathematics graduate program, then please email me to arrange an appointment or come visit me during my office hours. Options include doing a Directed Independent Study (DIS) or your dissertation with me.

Graduate Students
I have been the major professor for the following students who have completed or are working on their Ph.D.

Undergraduate Students
I have been the major professor for the following students who have completed their undergraduate honors thesis. Many other undergraduate students have worked as volunteers in my lab, and have continued on to graduate school in mathematics, physics, computer science, while others have positions in industry in pharmaceutical companies.
