Abstract. Since 2000, there has been a growing interest in the study of negative index metamaterials across many disciplines. In this talk, first I will derive the Maxwell's equations resulting from such metamaterials. Then I will review some time-domain finite element methods recently developed for solving those equations. I will discuss the most recently developed leap-frog type finite element method with some details. Finally, some numerical results will be presented. I will conclude the talk with some open problems.
