Abstract. We will show that twisted Alexander polynomials determine whether a 3-manifold admits a fibration. As a corollary of this, we show that if a product manifold of the form S^1 \times N admits a symplectic structure, N fibers over the circle. (Joint work with Stefan Friedl)
