Eligibility: You must have the course prerequisite listed below. It is the student's responsibility to check and prove eligibility.
Prerequisites: MAC 2312 (Calculus II) and MAS 3105 (Applied Linear Algebra I) with a grade of C- or better.
Text: Geometry for the Classroom by C. H. Clemens and M. A. Clemens, Springer-Verlag.
Course content: Chapters on Intuition, Construction, and Proof.
Material required: A good compass, a good straightedge, tracing paper and the textbook.
Course objectives: The main goal of the course is to prepare students in basic geometry. Topics will be discussed first in intuitive form, and then from a more advanced viewpoint. The course is primarily designed for teachers and preservice teachers of elementary geometry.
Grading: There will be three unit tests and several homework assignments which must be turned in on schedule. Your work will be weighted as follows: Test 1 - 20%; Tests 2 and 3 - 25% each; homework - 30%. Letter grades will be based on numerical grades in the usual way. (A: 90-100; B: 80-89; C: 70-79; D: 60-69, with +/- grades assigned at the discretion of the instructor.)
Exam policy: Makeup exams are not normally given. They may be considered if the student presents sufficient evidence of extenuating circumstances.
