Quantum Computing Seminar

Search:

SPRING 2001
Room 104, Love Building.
Tuesday, 3:35-4:35 pm.
-----------------------------------------
The first few lectures of the Quantum Computing Seminar will be devoted to background material on classical computation, reversible computation, and quantum mechanics. Subsequently, we will cover foundational topics such as quantum circuits, quantum complexity, and discuss various algorithms including Grover's quantum database search and Shor's factorization. Eventually, we will visit other topics in quantum information theory such as fault-tolerant computation, error-correcting codes, and various quantum encryption protocols.
Our basic references will be the book Quantum Computation and Quantum Information by Michael Nielsen and Isaac Chuang, and John Preskill's lecture notes on Quantum Computing. You may want to read Chapter 1 (of either reference) which provide overviews of the material covered, or the survey on Quantum Computing offered by Julian Brown in his book Minds, Machines, and the Multiverse.
