EXAMPLE 3.6.10 SOLUTIONS

In a box we have a bunch of puppies:
4 brown bulldogs
2 gray bulldogs
5 brown poodles
3 gray poodles
If one puppy is selected, what is the probability that the puppy is... 1. P(brown) = 9 divided by 14
2. P(poodle) = 8 divided by 14
3. P(gray or a bulldog) = (4 + 2 + 3) divided by 14 = 9 divided by 14
4. P(brown and a bulldog) = 4/14
5. P(bulldog, given that it is gray) = 2 divided by 5 because there are 5 gray dogs, and 2 of them are poodles

6. P(brown, given that it is a poodle) = 5 divided by 8 because there are 8 poodles and 5 of them are brown.
