EXAMPLE 1.6.1 SOLUTION

We can use the Fundamental Counting Principle to solve this problem. However, we must take into account that the order in which the two adjectives are chosen or listed does not matter.

There are 14 adjectives from which to choose, and we want to choose two of them. Since order doesn't matter, the number of ways in which this can be done is C(14, 2) = 91.

There are 91 ways to choose 2 adjectives. Having chosen the 2 adjectives, there are 16 possible noun phrases with which they may be combined. The total number of way to combine the two adjectives with a noun phrase is (91)(16) = 1456
