Monoidal Category is one of the research topic in Homological Algebra. The definition is based on the associative algebras and braided monoidal categories depend on commutative algebras. Those notions are used to define module categories and bimodule categories over monoidal categories. Drinfeld center of a monoidal category is an important tool to prove some of the important conclusions. Especially, they are used to prove some equivalences between 2-categories.
