Modeling of Precipitation Reactions in a Microfluidic Chamber

One hypothesis for the origin of the first biomolecules requires a passive membrane to maintain high chemical gradients across small spatial scales. A recent experiment in FSU chemistry used a simple precipitation reaction to generate a membrane which exhibits asymmetric permeability. Our group has worked to develop a novel multiphase fluid model to simulate this system and inform future experiments. The talk will discuss the model, analysis and simulations and will be accessible to a general mathematical audience.
