The Department of Mathematics serves over 6,000 undergraduates on the main FSU campus each term in mathematics courses at all levels. Students preparing to take their first math course at FSU should consult their academic advisor prior to registration for proper course placement. The Mathematics Department is host to five different undergraduate majors to prepare students for mathematics-related jobs in industry, finance, government and academia:

The department also offers a joint BS/MS option giving students additional preparation before taking the next step to graduate school or a profession.

The mathematics research faculty at FSU has expertise in a broad range of topics in the traditional areas of pure and applied mathematics, as well as in the interdisciplinary areas of biomathematics and financial mathematics. Advanced students may arrange Directed Individual Study (DIS) and Honors Thesis projects ("Honors in the major") with individual faculty members by contacting them directly.
