Cindy Lester: The canonical Grothendieck topology systems

Abstract. Similar to how every set can be equipped with a topology, every category can be equipped with a Grothendieck topology. I will discuss the canonical Grothendieck topology, which can be explicitly described using colimits, and its homotopy invariant counterpart, the canonical homotopical Grothendieck topology.

Man Chueng Tsui : Differential Essential Dimension

Abstract. Essential dimension measures how much a general polynomial simplifies under algebraic changes of variables called Tschirnhaus transformations. I will discuss my thesis work on a differential analogue of this concept, describing how much the general matrix differential equation Y'=AY simplifies under gauge transformations.

Yu Cao : 2D Rayleigh-Benard Problem: determining form, data assimilation, and attract bounds

Abstract. I will talk about three related notions - determining form, data assimilation, and attract bounds - in the setting of the 2D Rayleigh-Benard Problem.
