Title: Rigidity of hyperbolic group actions
Date: Friday, October 4, 2024
Place and Time: Love 101, 3:05-3:55 pm

Abstract. Hyperbolic diffeomorphisms and flows admit certain topological rigidity and stability properties discovered in the 1970s. In this talk, we will discuss a program of study which began in the late 80s which aims to push these results further in a different setting: completely classifying smooth actions of abelian groups on compact manifolds as those coming from algebraic constructions. Recent developments have added both more promise and extra wrinkles to the story.
