Abstract. Energy is the fundamental driver to the nation's economy. The prices of energy have behaved very wildly in the recent years, and have received broad attention across the country. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has proposed to tighten the regulations on energy tradings. In this talk, we will briefly review the energy markets. We will focus on the deregulated power market. I will introduce various concepts, e.g., independent system operator, locational marginal pricing, Day-ahead and real-time markets, and ancillary services. We will go through some detailed examples of asset trading, structured power transactions, business risks and their hedging strategies, and the green products, i.e., renewable energy.
