Abstract. It was known that rational surfaces which carry automorphisms with dynamical degree greater than 1 are rare. The first infinite family was constructed recently by E. Bedford and myself. Later we found the continuous family of rational surfaces with an automorphisms with positive entropy. In this talk we will discuss the construction of these families of rational surfaces and the dynamics of automophisms on these rational surfaces.
