Abstract. John von Neumann (1903-1957) was an astoundingly creative mathematician and physicist, pioneering developments in fields of quantum mechanics, fluid dynamics, functional analysis, nuclear physics, economics, game theory, hydrodynamic computations, cellular automata, and digital computers, laying the foundations for several branches of modern science. Professor Peter Lax, a legend in his own right, will present the amazing life story of John von Neumann.
