MATHEMATICS COLLOQUIUM
Speaker: Gerard Misiolek Abstract. I will discuss an infinite-dimensional analogue of this classical theorem of Riemannian geometry that has been proved in the setting of ideal fluids. Along the way I will also describe geometric and analytic tools and results that have been obtained since the seminal 1966 paper of Arnold that described fluid motions as geodesics in a space of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms. |
